- A visitor to an exhibition was admiring my floral paintings and enquired had I ever painted poppies. Surprisingly I hadn’t, particularly as it is my step daughter’s name. That summer our garden burst into colour with poppies scattered from the previous year. One breezy day they danced and danced until their petals fell. They looked a little war-torn but still radiant, and I wanted to create that feeling of defiant beauty.
